Laser Show

Subcategories

There are two ways of using show laser light systems: Aerial or beam show applications and graphics/surface projections. At aerial or beam shows, the spectators face the laser projector or at least spectate the laser beams from the side. The laser beams do not necessarily end on a certain surface.
Graphics projections use a surface to visualize graphics, texts etc. that are drawn by the laser. It is always necessary to have a surface where the graphics, texts, etc. are visualized on. As laser light is never ending (only getting dimmed), there is no way to do any projection without having a proper surface to project on. However, it is possible to use special projection surfaces that are not solid or have other features that help in creating 3D-like laser show projections.

Front projection screens

Front projection screens usually are made of solid screen material, like it is used for most of the video projections - at home or in cinemas. This material usually has very good reflection values and thus are very suitable for bright projections.

Rear projection screens

Rear projection screens are usually made of semi-transluminescent material, so they do not reflect the light but create kind of a "glow". Depending on the opacity, rear projection screens sometimes even let some portion of the laser beam pass through the material.

Gauze / mesh projection screens

Gauze projection screens are made of kind of "fishnet" material, meaning the fabric has many small holes (mesh material, gauze material). Gauze screens can be used for front and rear projections at the same time. Due to the many holes the reflection values are not as good as with normal front projection screens, however there are other huge advantages - especially in combination with laser light projections:

Fogscreens

Laser is a great medium for creating projections of different kinds. To make the laser visible it is always necessary to have a surface that reflects the laser light and thus makes it visible for human eye. Many different types of screens are available: Some consisting of fabric, others of water. The Fogscreen® is a very special type of screen, as the surface is not solid: This screen consists of very light water spray, that has been vaporized and is shaped by two very strong air shields. This generates a nearly invisible surface that people can walk through.

Waterscreens

Water screens are usually used indoor for generating a projection surface that can be easily and quickly switched on and off. Water screens provide a curtain of a multitude of water drops falling downwards. The sreecn consists of the actual water screen element with rows of nozzles that are in very close distance to each other, a strong pump with a special hose and a water basin. To have more depth in projection surface and a better "resolution", water screens usually have two or three nozzle rows. The more nozzle rows, the more water density in the actual projection surface.

Hydro Shield projections

Hydro or water shields work the other way round than a water screen:
They are generated from the bottom upwards.
Water shields consist of the shield element and an extremely strong pump. As the effect spreads up quite wide, it is used in large water basins only - artificial or natural (like lakes, rivers etc.)

Water jet projections / Water sprout fountains

Water fountains, or water jets, are used to extend outdoor scenes in height and to attract the spectators to look up. Especially in multimedia shows this effect sometimes is used to enable the stage crew to change settings in the lower front area whilst people are looking at the water fountains.
Water fountain effects can perfectly be combined with lasers:

Frosted glass

Where normal glass surfaces usually are not really suitable for laser projections (too low reflection value), frosted glass can be a very suitable alternative. The frost effect provides sufficient reflection for the use both as front as well as rear projection solution.

Fire shows

Water and fire are the contrast in elements - it's more than obvious to use fire elements in a multimedia show to emphase this contrast - or even make it appear not existing.
Fire elements can be implemented in different ways: Normal pyrotechnical effects emphase the genereal apprearance of the show and can especially be used for creating additional tenseness for the spectators.

Multimedia concepts

Having all hardware products on site and mounted is not enough for generating real emotions for the spectators: It is crucial to have a harmonious, perfectly synchronized show that integrates all media in an artisctic, choreographed way.

Laserworld not only offers a huge portfolio of different show laser systems for sale, but also provides different kinds of services around these products. Here we offer individual solutions for laser shows. For permanent installments of laser light systems for e.g. advertisement, please check out our laser installations site.

Lasershows are spectacular events that emotionalize the spectators. As the laser beams are very thin and become visible in the whole room, people get the feeling of standing inside the laser, being part of the show, being integrated in the scenario. This effect is very special with lasers: Conventional lighting fixtures work differently.

To provide outstanding lasershows of high standard, Laserworld cooperates with very experienced partners that use Laserworld, SwissLas or RTI equipment for the shows.

What is a laser show

The term „laser show“ can be used in different ways. On the one hand it stands for the laser light itself. On the other hand a laser show describes the whole laser light system with all its components when used for entertainment purposes.

Timeline and live laser show

Basically, two types of entertainment laser shows will be distinguished: The timeline based and the live laser show.
While a timeline based laser show is a fully programmed laser light show where all effects are preset, the live show depends mostly on a light operator who sets all parameters live on stage and thus can adapt the laser show within seconds.

Projection and beam show

There is another difference between two kinds of laser shows: The projection and the beam show.
For a projection laser show, laser images and laser animations are displayed on different projection surfaces (e.g. fog screens).
In contrast, for a beam laser show the laser beams are projected in the direction of the viewer. Together with generated haze, scale patterns or lines are created, that extendextend from their starting point at the laser projector towards the viewer.
With water screens the result is a mixture of both effects.

Many appliactions of laser shows

Laser shows offer amazing and memorable effects for a great vary of venues. They can be applied indoor and outdoor, in small and large locations, by professionals and hobbyists, are able to create single and multicolor beams, animations, patterns and texts, and all that on different surfaces like buildings, mountains, water or smokescreens and many more. You can even expand laser shows with additional effects just as synchronized music, fireworks and videos. The combinations are limitless and thus impressive multimedia shows can be created for all kind of audiences.

Laser light sources

For the visibility of show laser lights low power will suffice. Laser light diodes (semiconductor technology)and DPSS laser lights are used most often as laser sources. In the past gas laser lights were also applied. Though they do not take part in event industry nowadays.

The diode laser light source consists of multiple diodes are combined to a diode array module via knife edge combination. The disadvantage of diode laser lights is their worse divergence with higher power levels.

Diode-pumped solid-state laser lights are mostly used for creating green laser light with a wavelength of 532 nm. It became apparent that red and blue DPSS laser lights are too expensive and unreliable.

Implementation

Basically you'll just need a laser light and a projection medium - either a surface or a particle in the air. Via a scanner (or galvanometer) the laser beam will be deflected horizontally and vertically in a very fast way to create a picture. For show purposes the possibilities are nearly limitless and can be rather komplex.

Safety

For a secure handling of laser projections it is necessary to comply with legal regulations in your state. Always consider the protection of your audience first.
Our show laser lights are mostly grouped in laser classes 3b and 4. These can be very dangerous for eyes and skin if used incorrectly. Laser lights from Laserworld are FDA checked and all of our employees are skilled in professional and secure handling of our show laser lights.

Area of application

Laser shows can be used for every kind of event to increase emotions - whether it's a small presentation with 100 customers or a big fair with 100,000 visitors. The spectrum of possibilities is very impressive thanks to the flexible laser light technology. It doesn't matter if you want to create a glowing advertising pillar or a gigantic space battle.
Unfortunately, laser light sabers like in Star Wars aren't possible (yet) as light always needs a limiting medium to shine on. But for everything else Laserworld is just the right partner for your needs.
